Another Touch of Frost

Another Touch of Frost

Across the road from the alleyway behind my house, a truck ran into a light pole last year. I don’t remember if the city actually replaced it or not, but a week ago a new, or newer, light went in in it’s place. I think, although I certainly can’t say this for sure, that the city swiped it from a baseball stadium. You can see this thing more than two blocks away, and it lights up my back year like, well, a stadium!
I was out in the alley a night or two ago marvelling at how well I can see my garbage cans back there now and cursing the brightness of my yard at the same time, when I realized it was also blazing through the now pretty much dead lilacs (our completely ineffective sound barrier between us and the road traffic). At 77% humidity and -4C, a real nice frost forms. Well, I thought it was nice, though that may have been the cold, the dampness, and the fact that I’d been up for 18 hours or so.
I had to go back in the house and get the camera. This is straight out of camera using the E-M1’s handheld starlight setting at ISO 12,800. Auto white balance gave it this brown tint, which is a result of mixing the yellow sodium lights that completely line the street mixed with the one Super Bowl light.
